It is with deep gratitude for the many blessings received from Christian Science that I give this testimony. I heard of this teaching for the first time about ten years ago from a lady who was a Christian Scientist. She translated from Science and Health several passages which were very helpful to me. At that time, although an ardent Protestant, I was not satisfied with what my religion taught me. Something was lacking, and this something was precisely the spiritual understanding of the Bible which Mrs. Eddy gives us in her beautiful book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
Soon after this I came to live in the neighborhood of Paris, where I learned with the greatest happiness, for I knew but little English, that Christian Science services in French were being held every Sunday. These services have been and are to me a source of spiritual joy and development. I started to study the Bible seriously and tried to translate Science and Health with the aid of a dictionary, and with the help of a kind practitioner I made appreciable progress in understanding the truth. I had many demonstrations of God's ever presence in the course of painful experiences with which I was faced, and my life has been gradually made harmonious. I learned to say, "Thy will be done;" I had not understood the real meaning of these words before. Human sense would make me say concerning my future: I shall do this, or I shall go there. I made plans. Now I leave the way clear for God, knowing that He is lovingly leading me toward ever increasing good. From a financial viewpoint I have also had numerous proofs of the love of God. My money matters, which were in a difficult state, have been improved by the coming of unexpected help.
Knowing that reform is the principal thing in Christian Science, I try to know myself, and to a large extent have been able to overcome irritation and impatience, which were injurious to the harmony of my existence. My greatest desire is to put into practice in my daily life, as faithfully as possible, the golden rule, knowing that sin and sickness must be deprived of their imaginary power and must return to nothingness, since God is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient.
