During the time that I have been a student of Christian Science,...
During the time that I have been a student of Christian Science, whenever this teaching has been applied with all sincerity and an understanding of God as Supreme Being and of man's relation to Him, it has never failed. I wish to mention one special demonstration, hoping it may be of some benefit to those seeking the truth.
My daughter was taken seriously ill at school one afternoon, and being unable to get home, she crossed the street to the home of a friend, who is a prominent physician. When she did not return at the usual time I called over the telephone to know the reason, and the physician, informed me that she was very ill with a serious throat trouble, that he had made a test and she should be treated with antitoxin. I told him to bring her home, that I could take care of her, and was unwilling to have him use the drug. He consented, saying he would make a second test.
I immediately called a Christian Science practitioner, stated the case, and asked for treatment. When the physician called me to the telephone about nine o'clock, after making the second test in the presence of another doctor, he said they found the child suffering so from the throat trouble that he felt it his duty to insist that I let him use the antitoxin. To this I objected, and told him that I could take care of the child and would let him know about her in the morning. I talked to the practitioner again that evening.
