A sorry spectacle is presented when a preacher so far forgets the example and precept of Jesus as to assail the one class of Christians who are endeavoring to obey the dual, inseparable, and irrevocable command of the Master to preach the gospel and heal the sick. For such a one to speak of Christian Science as the masterpiece of Satan, as was advertised, only serves to reveal an ignorance of Christian Science, combined with sectarian prejudice, such as to render any man incompetent either to judge or to advise on the subject.

As a matter of fact, both the teaching and the practice of Christian Science are based wholly on the Bible, and the results of its application in the lives of men verify its claims. Christ Jesus did not say that his followers should be known by their doctrine, but by their deeds, "their fruits;" and that Christian Science is being widely accepted shows that mankind prefers Christian demonstration to dead dogmas.

On page 355 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes: "The statement that the teachings of Christian Science in this work are 'absolutely false, and the most egregious fallacies ever offered for acceptance,' is an opinion wholly due to a misapprehension both of the divine Principle and practice of Christian Science and to a consequent inability to demonstrate this Science. Without this understanding, no one is capable of impartial or correct criticism, because demonstration and spiritual understanding are God's immortal keynotes, proved to be such by our Master and evidenced by the sick who are cured and by the sinners who are reformed."
