Many members of the clergy are apparently stirred by...
Arvada (Col.) Enterprise
Many members of the clergy are apparently stirred by the acceptance by Christian Science of the dual, and yet single, command of the Master to preach the gospel and heal the sick. Strangely enough, however, instead of first casting the beam out of their own eye, so that they might see clearly how to render full obedience to this command of Jesus, which he never divided or abrogated, they spend their time carping at those Christians who are humbly endeavoring to follow the Wayshower in both word and deed.
Although Christ Jesus said, "By their fruits ye shall know them," the so-called orthodox churches of today measure a man's Christianity by his creed rather than by his deeds. When one's idea of religion is expressed as a creed, it is but natural that he should attempt to measure everything by his own particular yardstick. This is a rather dangerous procedure, as one's mental vision is liable to have become so narrowed and perverted thereby that the true sense and appreciation of other teachings are not gained: and misapprehension inevitably leads to misrepresentation.
This seems to have been the case in Arvada recently, and for the benefit of those who desire the facts it is appropriate to quote Mrs. Eddy's words as found on page 497 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian text-book: "We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness. . . . We acknowledge Jesus' atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man's unity with God through Christ Jesus the Wayshower; and we acknowledge that man is saved through Christ, through Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death."
