Christian Science was taken up to meet the need of an unsettled, poverty stricken existence, which had followed in the wake of a long illness. I had lost all confidence in religion as expounded from the pulpits and went to church only to hear the music. Having been a nurse for a long time, I was familiar with the use of drugs and other modes of treatment for the sick, and for years would not think of being without a case of drugs and appliances for personal use.

Then belief in drugs changed to belief in manipulation, and I took a special course in one of the large schools where healing without drugs was taught. After graduating, however, I was the victim of the long illness mentioned and was pronounced very nervous by the doctor. I was secluded in a quiet room at a private hospital where I had gone to take a position in the new methods I had just learned. After many weeks I refused further treatment and left the hospital amid the protests of friends and physicians.

Soon after this a lady told me of a friend who had been healed in Christian Science and asked me to go with her to the Christian Science church, but for some reason she did not mention it again and we did not go. A short time afterward I went to southern California to take up my work again, and a position was secured in a sanitarium. There I met two nurses who were Christian Scientists and from whom I learned of the truth.
