Four years ago I accepted Christian Science earnestly
Four years ago I accepted Christian Science earnestly. Up to that time I was a source of misery to myself and every one around me. The doctor said he could do nothing more for me, unless I would agree to undergo an operation. This I would not consent to, knowing that to mortal sense I was too weak to survive such an ordeal. I had eaten only three meals in sixty-five days, and during this period had not been able to sleep more than ten minutes at a time.
Previous to this I had tried Christian Science treatment and it had helped me, but I was not ready to leave all for God. Man's extremity was, however, God's opportunity, and again a practitioner was called. After treatment was given me I went to sleep, and awakened only twice that night. The next morning I ate a little soup, and from the third day was able to take a quart each day. I was permanently healed of asthma, of nervous headaches from which I had suffered since six years of age, of chronic sore throat, and of many other diseases. Besides all these afflictions there was a deep sorrow in my home that seemed to me unbearable,—the passing on of a loved one.
I had been brought up by a loving Christian mother, and was also a church member myself, but I had prayed for her recovery all in vain, and this led me to believe there was no God. I remarked that I never would attempt to pray again ; but thank God I am learning each day how to pray aright. I have also been healed of hatred, and for this healing I am indeed more grateful than words can express, for this is what I call putting off the old man with his deeds and putting on the new.
