"Sanctified through the truth"
All professed Christians, be they Christian Scientists or members of other churches, acknowledge Christ Jesus to be the Saviour of the world. There is, however, a great difference of opinion as to the nature of salvation. The question is, How did Christ Jesus save us, and from what did he save us? The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, has answered this question in a way which satisfies reason and increases our love for and gratitude to the Master.
It goes without saying that an ambassador to a foreign country is better qualified to state the nature of his mission than any one else in that country. May we not then attach the greatest importance to the words of Christ Jesus, God's ambassador extraordinary to mankind, when he explained why he came to this earth? At a time when he assuredly spoke with the greatest deliberation, standing before Pilate in the judgment chamber, he said, "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth."
Was ever a mission more clearly stated? "That I should bear witness unto the truth." Nor was this the only time when he explained the object of his appearance on this plane of consciousness. Again and again he represented himself as the truth bearer to mankind. For instance, he said to the Pharisees: "Ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth ... And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?" He lost no opportunity to impress upon his hearers the necessity of gaining an understanding of the truth to which he bore witness, notably in those oft quoted words, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." He continually proved the liberating power of the truth by healing the sick, raising the dead, and leading the sinners to repentance.
