It is with a grateful heart that I add my testimony to the many which are given by those who have found this wonderful healing truth and have been helped by it. One evening several years ago I was taken suddenly and quite seriously ill. In the morning a physician was called and the case was diagnosed as appendicitis. He said I must be taken to the hospital at once for an operation. To make sure, however, another doctor was called, and he agreed to every statement the first physician had made.
At one o'clock that same afternoon I was taken to the hospital, and the following morning I was operated on for what I was afterward told was a very bad case of gangrenous appendicitis. For a few days I seemed to be getting along nicely, then complications set in and I became much worse. The conditions were very alarming and a third physician was called. All the doctors said they could do nothing more for me, and that I would not live till morning. I was perfectly conscious, and having a friend in the city who had spoken of Christian Science to me, I asked them to telephone to her and say that if Science could do anything for me to have it done that night. My friend immediately called a practitioner and treatment was begun. The most serious symptoms disappeared at once, and I realized at that moment the power and presence of God. For many days I remained very ill, but I suffered no pain at all except on being moved. My healing was slow, but I gained steadily until I became perfectly well.
Prior to this time I had worn glasses for more than twelve years; now they too are a thing of the past. I am also free from a bowel trouble of many years' standing. It is not alone in the physical healing that I rejoice, but in the spiritual regeneration,—that peace of mind which means so much to me. I want my daily life to attest my sincerity, also my thankfulness to God and gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Laura A. Fowler Thompson, San Francisco, Cal.
