Almost seven years ago Christian Science found us in the wilderness of sorrow and fear. One very dear to me was in great need of help from some source other than the various physicians and cures to which we had been hopelessly clinging for fifteen years. We were directed to a Christian Science practitioner, and the need was met with an instantaneous healing. The practitioner advised us to purchase "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, a book we had never before heard mentioned, and it had proved to be the best investment we ever made. Through an earnest study of this text-book I was first healed of fear, then of periodical headaches, biliousness, and intestinal indigestion.
While I had been a church member for twenty years, my faith was mere belief, and I found no consolation or spiritual enlightenment until I began to study the Bible in connection with Science and Health. I am most thankful to God for having led me to investigate this present-day Truth-cure. My heart is filled with gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the spiritual lessons taught in Christian Science, whereby my faith has changed from belief to spiritual understanding, my fear into confidence, and my sorrow into joy unspeakable. This truth is more to my husband and myself today than ever before, and is sustaining us in working out a problem that is most near our hearts,—the giving of our only son, who has just finished his preparation to enter the legal profession, into the hands of our Government to do his bit for his country.—Mary C. Holden, Jackson, Miss.
My gratitude to God for blessings received through Christian Science prompts me to give testimony thereto, with the hope that I may thus help some other person. For more than ten years prior to January, 1910, I had been addicted to drink, and was ill mentally, physically, and morally. I took all known medical and sanitarium treatments for several years, but found no permanent cure. After it appeared that there was no hope for me, my attending physician advised me to try Christian Science, saying that some of his patients had been helped by it. I thought this advice absurd, but consented to give it a fair trial. I therefore visited a Christian Science practitioner, and since the first treatment I have had no desire whatever for strong drink.
