It is over six years since I became interested in Christian Science, and I feel it a privilege as well as a duty to testify to the many benefits received through its ministry during that time. At my first turning to it I was suffering from general debility, but my condition quickly improved through the help of a Christian Science practitioner and I was soon in normal health again, and so continued for some years, during which time colds, influenza, and other discordant conditions were quickly overcome through the power of Truth. I was also healed of injuries received on the football field.

In August, 1915, I received a compound fracture of the thigh in the eastern theater of the European war. Two days elapsed before I reached a hospital, during which time septic poisoning was said to have set in and my case became very serious. The surgeon who examined me said the bone was crushed to pieces and suggested amputation; but I would not consent to this, as I had already written to a Christian Science practitioner in Dublin, Ireland, and knew that help would come before long. I was not disappointed, for I soon began to improve. The bone united, but the wound continued to discharge and I was detained in the hospital fifteen months, during which time I was operated on for the removal of splinters and foreign bodies which had been bound up in the wound.

It gives me pleasure to state here that nothing could have exceeded the care and kindness received at the hands of the surgical and nursing staffs during the long period spent in the hospital; but this human kindness and the methods employed were insufficient, for the wound remained unhealed, and in the end I asked to be discharged from the hospital rather than submit to any further surgical treatment. This was consented to, as all available beds were required. In less than two weeks after leaving, the wound was completely healed and has so remained. A surgeon who has since examined the leg says the result is most satisfactory.
