Prior to becoming interested in Christian Science I had...
Prior to becoming interested in Christian Science I had been a sufferer from lung trouble and had been given up by two of the best known specialists in northern Ohio. The first one told my husband there was no possible help for me, that I could not live another winter in this climate. He advised a trip to the West, saying it might prolong my life; but we had a large family and had not the means to take it. Thinking as I did that life was in the air, I was in a pretty bad way. Another specialist was consulted, and he said he could relieve me, but there was no possible cure.
About this time a friend came to visit me, and I told her what the doctor had said. Then with much love she pointed me to the great Physician, and left me a copy of the pamphlet "Prayer and Healing." I read it with much interest, and from the first could say, although it was entirely new to me, "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." I sought the help of a practitioner, and now old things have passed away. For weeks at a time I had slept only by the use of an opiate, and then had to rest in a rocker, as the heart had become so affected by constant coughing that it was impossible for me to lie down.
On the first day of April, 1915, I was taken with an attack of acute lung trouble, and the family feared I would pass on before help could be obtained; but thanks be to God, through unfaltering faith, true devotion, and firm conviction of the allness of God, even the cry of death was stilled. Much against the will of my family, who are not Scientists, the practitioner was called instead of the family doctor, and she proved the healing power of Truth and Love in my complete recovery.—Bessie A. Brown, Cleveland, Ohio.
