A clergyman is reported to have warned his hearers, in an address, against the attack that rationalism in the form of Christian Science was making on Christianity. If by rationalism he means the doctrine or system of those who deduce their religious opinions from reason or the understanding, as distinct from or opposed to revelation, then the term does not apply to Christian Science. Writing of her discovery of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy says: "I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God, and that cures were produced in primitive Christian healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration" (Science and Health, p. 109). And she continues (p. 110): "In following these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only text-book. The Scriptures were illumined; reason and revelation were reconciled, and afterward the truth of Christian Science was demonstrated."

Christianity bore certain fruits in the first centuries of the Christian era. The same fruits are required of it today. At present these fruits are being brought forth by the practice of Christian Science throughout the civilized world.
