In February, 1915, while crossing the Atlantic from Liverpool to New York, I was seized with a sudden attack of heart failure. I sent the stewardess to call the friend with whom I was traveling, and when she came I could only whisper, "Treat me; I think I am slipping away." She did so, and also read to me, but as I seemed to grow worse she finally asked me if I would like to have her send a wireless message to a Christian Science practitioner. I was very glad to have her do so, and she went to make arrangements with the operator. She was told that we were too far from land to reach Scotland by wire, but that later in the evening we would be in touch with a vessel which would forward the message.
Although seemingly very low, I got through the night, but only to have another sinking spell in the morning. Near noon, however, I began to improve, and by nightfall not only did I feel well, but all fear had vanished. A few weeks later I learned that, allowing for the difference in time, I must have begun to improve about half an hour after the wireless message reached the practitioner. In all my thankfulness for the healing truth which had raised me up, I was particularly impressed by the wonderful elimination of time and space. Although a thousand miles out at sea and over three days' journey from the nearest land, when my own faith was too feeble to help me I was enabled to reach one whose understanding of the glorious truths of Christian Science caused the seeming illness to dissolve into nothingness. The healing has been permanent, and I am in excellent health.
