I often felt the need of a better understanding of the Bible...

I often felt the need of a better understanding of the Bible and longed for sufficient faith to believe and trust in God's promises, but seeing so little practical use made of the teachings of Christ Jesus, I gradually ceased to read the Bible. When I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," it was a great joy to find that it does indeed unlock the Scriptures and make reasonable and practical all the teachings of the Master. My beliefs in regard to God were vague and unsatisfying, but gradually, through attendance at church services and constant study of the text-book, I began to know God. After reading but a few pages of Science and Health I could read easily without glasses, although they had been worn for over five years. The understanding gained through studying the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings has given me strength to meet each day's demands and has kept me well.

I am deeply thankful for the discernment which led Mrs. Eddy to give to the world a daily newspaper, thus abundantly supplying Christian Scientists with authorized literature, so that the desire for unprofitable and even dangerous reading is destroyed. In subscribing for all the literature I find myself protected from many temptations to squander time. During these eight years there have been many opportunities to prove that man is never separated, even for an instant, from divine Love, and that when we are obedient to our highest understanding our prayers are answered, and our needs, both spiritual and physical, are supplied.

My daily prayer is for greater consecration and increased activity, so that I may be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist.—Alice L. Merrill, Los Angeles, Cal.
