In gratitude for the great help which has been received...
In gratitude for the great help which has been received through Christian Science, and with much joy, I submit the following testimony. In 1909 I fell and sustained such a serious injury of the back that soon afterward I had to be taken to the hospital, where I stayed almost four years. For two years I lay in a plaster cast, and the physicians declared the case to be one of inflammation of the spinal marrow and the dorsal vertebrae. The spine was broken, and in consequence five vertebrae protruded. At the Zurich Cantonal Hospital, where I was taken in October, 1912, the physicians stated that a tubercular condition existed which was incurable, and that there was nothing they could do for me.
I wrote to an acquaintance and told her of my pitiful condition, whereupon she called and brought me a copy of Der Herold der Christian Science, saying that I could be helped. What she told me regarding this new teaching at once made me feel very confident as to its message. I read several copies of the Herold diligently and experienced great relief. In April a Christian Science practitioner was asked to take up treatment, and from that time the healing progressed rather rapidly, so that in June I was able to walk without assistance. In September the celluloid corset which had been worn for the support of my back was discarded. A chronic affection of the lungs of years' standing, as well as an ear trouble and other ailments, have completely disappeared. In August, 1913, I left the infirmary of my native place, and when later on I presented myself for examination to the physician of that institution and then to the doctors of the Cantonal Hospital, they had to acknowledge that I was completely healed.
Wonderful though my healing has been, I prize yet higher the inner peace and comfort which has come to me through Christian Science, and my sole endeavor is to be not only a hearer but a doer of the word. Next to God I am most deeply grateful to Mrs. Eddy for this glorious teaching.
