Early in the autumn of 1913 I was taken ill

Early in the autumn of 1913 I was taken ill. The case was diagnosed as a complete nervous breakdown, accompanied by severe attacks of so-called bilious fever, catarrh of the stomach, and sciatica. Fourteen years previous to this time my mother had been healed through Christian Science of a severe illness, but being only a child I did not realize what the truth had accomplished for her. I was brought up in the Christian Science faith and can recall many instances where an application of the truth, as I understood it, was sufficient to meet my needs. In the present instance, however, this treatment was opposed by some members of the family, and as I was in such a nervous condition, I yielded to their insistence for treatment by a physician. For weeks I took very little nourishment and suffered intensely; but when material remedies had failed to give relief, I longingly turned to Truth.

After a night of unusual suffering a Christian Science practitioner was telegraphed to, and he responded promptly. I shall never forget the sense of peace that came to me as he passed the threshold. There were many seeming difficulties to be overcome, but through untiring effort on his part their nothingness was soon proven. Slowly but surely, one by one these obstacles were removed, the pains ceased, the appetite returned, and health and strength were made manifest. When I was first able to be up one leg was considerably shorter than the other, but this too was soon righted.

Since my healing I have experienced greater joy and happiness than ever before. I am striving daily to realize more and more the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience of God. Though at times it seems difficult to fathom the facts of being, yet this I know,—that nothing is impossible to man as God's reflection, and that His law is a law of progress; there can be no failures, no retrogression. I am truly grateful to all who ministered to my wants during my illness, but most of all I am thankful to God. Only those who have had like experiences can know the gratitude felt not alone for physical help received, but much more for spiritual enlightenment gained thereby. My daily prayer is to have the Mind which was in Christ Jesus, and no other consciousness but God, good.—Mrs. W. R. Harley, Medina, Ohio.
