A deep feeling of gratitude urges me to make public acknowledgment...

A deep feeling of gratitude urges me to make public acknowledgment of the benefits I have received through Christian Science. I hope this testimony may lead some one to study this Science, and if it ever comes under the eyes of a naval officer I can only tell him that nothing else in the world can give him such rest and peace in times of storm and danger. Before I became acquainted with Christian Science I was subject to a bad physical condition which dated from my childhood. Every year I grew worse, and it was in this serious state that Christian Science found me. I understood very little of it, and clung tenaciously to fear and doubt; hence disappointment was the result. At that time I gave it up, but the hope remained that the time would come when I would know and understand the truth.

Three years later I had a talk with a Scientist, and this made such an impression on me that all doubt was gone. I saw that I had to take up my work again, being a naval officer, and so went to see a Christian Science practitioner to ask her to give me treatment before my departure and during my first voyage. I can say that I experienced no trouble of any kind, and many ills were overcome. The extreme melancholy and bodily weakness left me and I became a strong and healthy man. I have no words to express my thankfulness to God for the benefits I have received through Christian Science; also my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who gave us the truth, and to all who helped me to "put off the old man with his deeds."
