Over nine years ago I read Christian Science literature...
Over nine years ago I read Christian Science literature and the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, but I did not accept Science until a few years ago. At that time about every material remedy had been tried and exhausted. I was afraid to go on living, and very much afraid of death. For twelve years I had been an invalid, suffering from kidney disease (said to be in the last stages), bladder and stomach trouble, uterine weakness, and bowel inaction.
A lady with her husband, both interested in Science, came to live next door, and gave me some literature to read, including Science and Health. With the reading my condition began to improve and in three months I took treatment. Through patient obedience and study, with the practitioner lovingly pointing the way, health and strength have been regained. I rejoice as only those can who know what it is not even to walk out in the air and sunshine for years. I shall never forget a Christian Science lecture it was my privilege to attend in October, 1914, for that was the first time I had been out at night in twelve years.
We give thanks for the healing of disease, but our deepest gratitude is for the spiritual understanding of God and man which has come to us through the study of Christian Science. I am also grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who gave us this revelation of Truth, and for the faithful workers who publish the literature. I have had the privilege of becoming a member of The Mother Church, and my desire is to be a loyal, faithful Christian Scientist.—Alice J. Gittings, Camas, Wash.
