It is several years since through the instrumentality of a dear friend I first became interested in Christian Science. I shall never forget my experience when I attended my first service in a Christian Science church and the inspiration I received, especially during the beautiful solemnity of the period allowed for silent prayer. Naturally my interest was aroused, and I read with profit a copy of the Sentinel which had been given me. I was not satisfied, however, until I obtained a copy of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, from the public library. This I was able to borrow for about six weeks and from the study of it I derived much light.
When the time came to part with the book it was like giving up a treasure. Although I was privileged to read many of the pamphlets and much of the other literature issued from the publishing house, I was not satisfied until I became the happy possessor of a copy of Science and Health of my own. It meant many acts of self-denial, but my heart was full of gratitude when I found upon counting up my savings that I had more than sufficient to purchase the book. After studying a few weeks the liquor and tobacco habits left me, and I have had no desire for these things since.
For the healing of many phases of discord I am indeed grateful. I find that if error of whatever form tries to assert itself, the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science is sufficient to make it disappear into its native nothingness. It is indeed a beautiful experience to become interested in something which is perfectly good, and to know that God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient. For the help received through the church services I am deeply grateful, as they have enabled me to make many demonstrations over domestic and financial anxieties, and to see what appeared to be mountains of trouble disappear like mist before the summer sun. Truly have I realized that divine Love has met my every need.
