Because of the help received from testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals I wish to add my meed of praise and thanksgiving for what this teaching has done for me, hoping that some one passing through a similar experience may also find the truth that makes free.

In the fall of 1911, the darkest hour of my life, occasioned by the sudden passing on of an idolized child, a friend who saw my need of a better understanding of God urged me to read Science and Health, but feeling strongly prejudiced, at first I refused. At that time I was and had been for several years an active worker in an orthodox church and Sunday school, and I earnestly sought the peace and comfort God had promised those that mourn. I always refused to believe God sent this sorrow upon me, and told my friends, when they would say He took my baby for some wise purpose, that I did not believe He had anything to do with it.

After some weeks of melancholy and severe headaches, which had made me even pray for the end, I decided to put aside my antagonistic thoughts and read the book offered me. I shall never forget how hungrily it was read. For days I was so absorbed in it that I seemed oblivious to my surroundings and did not realize it was helping me, until one day there came a feeling of freedom and joy such as I had never expected to know. At once the sense of loss and separation vanished. I knew that if the simple reading of that wonderful book could heal broken hearts, then the author was the messenger of God, and from that time I became an earnest seeker for more of the truth.
