Among the Churches

Current Notes

Woodburn, Ore.—Ground was broken this week [Aug. 7] for the erection of a Christian Science church edifice at the northeast corner of Second and Garfield Streets, opposite the Public Library. The building will be 46 by 60 feet, modern style, with a seating capacity of one hundred and fifty, and will be completed in two or three months. The cost of the structure will be nearly three thousand dollars.

As early as 1907 a small group of ladies who were earnestly studying Christian Science, met each week to read the Bible together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. As others became interested it proved necessary to obtain a larger meeting place, so the G. A. R. room at the Armory was secured. There the first public service was held in May, 1912. Later the parlors of the Masonic Temple were rented, where Sunday morning and Wednesday evening meetings are still held. In October, 1912, the Christian Science Society was organized and a building fund started, and in March, 1915, the lot on which this church building will be erected was purchased.
