After practically all material means had failed, I was...

After practically all material means had failed, I was instantaneously healed through Christian Science of Bright's disease, catarrh of the stomach, an ailment of the liver, and extreme nervous exhaustion. For several years I had been a semiinvalid, under the care of doctors of various schools, had lived in the open, in rest-houses, and in sanitariums, and had resorted to practically every known means to effect a cure. Despite the efforts of the physicians my condition grew worse, until I was wasted away to a mere skeleton and barely able to walk.

My physician then discovered that Bright's disease had reached an acute stage, and told my friends that I could live but a very short time. In accordance with his advice I went to the home of a friend in a town near Philadelphia, with the intention of spending my remaining days there. This friend had been successfully treated in Christian Science for locomotor ataxia, and he was very desirous that I turn to it in my extremity. More out of courtesy to my host than because of any faith in Christian Science, of which I knew but vaguely, I visited his practitioner and received treatment. After a long sleep, the first for weeks, I awoke perfectly healed; the pain had disappeared and I felt entirely rejuvenated—literally a new man. From the hour of that healing, more than five years ago, I have not been incapacitated from duty for a moment, and today enjoy better health than at any previous time. Subsequently I have been healed of defective sight, and have laid aside glasses which had been worn for many years. The tobacco habit has been overcome, and there have been innumerable other proofs of the power of Truth.

In expressing my gratitude for these manifestations of the power of divine Love, let me express my appreciation of Mrs. Eddy's mighty work in giving to the world a demonstrable religion. I am also grateful for the authorized literature, the reading-rooms, and the churches. As a student of Christian Science I am especially grateful for The Christian Science Monitor and the splendid work it is achieving in the elevation and purification of journalism.
