Weekly Reporter

In the Weekly Reporter of recent date you indulge in a good-natured joke on Christian Scientists because, while they hold that pain is an illusion, you "have never seen one yet who would not drop a hot poker just as if it were the real thing." I do not know how common hot pokers may be in Shannon, and therefore cannot conjecture how frequently the temptation to drop them might assail one; but in other parts of the world Christian Scientists find that the need of demonstrating the unreality of all evil, pain included, presents itself more urgently in other ways. They have progressed far enough to heal disease in its most serious forms, and relieve pain and distress. While working toward the attainment of so complete an understanding as to permit the holding of hot pokers, should that become desirable, they hope not to lose their sense of humor, but to continue to enjoy a good laugh, even at their own expense.
