Freedom

An ant was toiling patientlyFrom twining cords to struggle free.Enmeshed in these, its only thoughtWas the escape it bravely sought;And neither wailing nor regretHeld its resolve in strangling net.

Yussuf Ben Orem gazed and thought:Were I in toils of habit caughtAnd striving freedom to regain,This little ant makes very plain,Regret, self-pity, grief ne'er aid,But faith in freedom unafraid.
