In a recent issue a writer, referring to a certain so-called evangelist, states that "he cannot be ignored as a Christian Scientist ignores pain." The statement displays such a woeful lack of understanding of the teachings of Christian Science that I should like to correct it.
The Bible tells us that "God is love." It also tells us that "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." The logic is very clear. If God is good, and if God made all, the conclusion is inevitable that evil—sin, disease, and death—has no divine authority and was never created. It is therefore a supposition, an illusion, a lie, which the truth dispels. The logic of Christian Science is irrefutable. It explains matter and evil—sin, disease, and death included—by explaining them away, and substitutes in their stead the glorious reality of God's allness. Christian Science is in strict accord with the teachings of Christ Jesus, who, healing sin and disease by one and the same process, said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
"The dream that matter and error are something must yield to reason and revelation," Mrs. Eddy writes on page 347 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the text-book of Christian Science. "Then," she continues, "mortals will behold the nothingness of sickness and sin, and sin and sickness will disappear from consciousness." Instead of attempting to exalt the lie of sin and sickness to the heights of reality, Christian Science reduces it to its native nothingness. Our critic should know that Christian Science is daily proving itself to be the most efficacious healing system known. The absurdity of his statement that Christian Scientists ignore pain, will therefore be immediately evident to your readers. "Ye shall know them by their fruits."
