From Our Exchanges

[The Watchman-Examiner]

As the thought broadens into the sphere of human action, it calls for the expression of love for enemies, indefinite deeds, of goodness to all who hate us. This may not be so difficult as the cultivation of right feelings and right speech, but it is essential if you would be a child of God that you should "do good to them that hate you." And you must go even beyond that, and when feeling is right and speech is loving and you have done all the good you can to your enemies, you must then pray for the loving care of the heavenly Father for "them which despitefully use you, and persecute you."

How happy would the world be if this standard of love set in the Sermon on the Mount universally prevailed! The war in Europe, unjust competition in business, oppression of every sort, and strife of every kind would cease. This perfect condition, unhappily, seems far from being realized on the earth at the present time. But at least those who aspire to belong to the family of God may be assured that in order to do so they must have the spirit of Him who does good unto all, sending sunshine and rain upon both the evil and the good, and blessing alike in all material ways those who love and those who hate Him.
