In grateful recognition of what Christian Science has done...
In grateful recognition of what Christian Science has done for me I offer this testimony for publication. For many years I suffered from chronic and acute stomach trouble; I do not remember that I was ever free from it prior to my healing in Christian Science. A severe case of typhoid fever, treated under materia medica, left me in even worse condition, so that digestion meant suffering. Nearly all of my life has been spent in a mining town in the mountains of Colorado, and my work as a miner was doubly hard because of this disorder.
One cold November night I tossed on a bed of pain. Outside, the snow drifted against the window, the wind shrieked, rattled stovepipes, and threatened to blow the house away. The sever spasmodic pains seemed bent on keeping in unison with the storm without. Opiates had been used for several days, but they afforded only temporary relief. Christian Science treatment was then recommended, and a practitioner in Denver, one hundred and ten miles distant, was called over the long-distance telephone from a house several blocks away. Afterward I learned that the message was simply that I was dangerously ill from severe stomach pains. Perhaps forty minutes elapsed before the practitioner was reached, and I despaired of receiving help from that source.
I was alone in my room when a wonderful change took place,—all pain melted away like mist before the morning sun. The aching head, the throat trouble, all pain and swelling, disappeared. I was healed; and as beautiful as the physical healing, there came into my consciousness the understanding that God had healed me through the prayer of a devout Christian Science practitioner. On bended knee and with gratitude expressed in tears, I knew that my longing for many years had also been answered by my healing in Christian Science.
