It is several years since I became interested in Christian Science, and I wish I could tell all the wonderful blessings I have received through the study of Science and Health. I had been sick a great deal, and had taken all kinds of drugs, but in August, 1910, I gave up; I could not keep around any longer. I went to a doctor, who told me my condition was serious, with hemorrhoids, chronic bowel trouble, rheumatism, and dropsy, but by treatment and the taking of different kinds of medicine I could be cured. I kept this treatment up for eight weeks, but was getting worse all the time, and was unable to sleep either night or day on account of the pain. I went to another doctor on Oct. 1, and he said I would have to be operated on at once. I asked him if all the pain would be gone, and he replied that it would. I had suffered so terribly and so long that I was willing to try anything to be free from it all, and I went to a hospital to be operated on. For a few days there was no pain, but before I left the hospital it came back. I was taken home, but seemed to get worse, and nothing I took did me any good. The doctor then told me I would have to stay in bed and have my limbs bandaged, as I had inflammatory rheumatic gout. I had to diet, and every day go through a painful treatment which I was warned not to neglect.

In January I had a nervous breakdown and suffered as much in mind as in body. Then my husband brought Science and Health home and asked me to read it. I did so, but thought it did not help me. I had a good many friends in Science and I questioned them, until one day a lady came who gave me the first clear light I had ever had. This was in March. I was having hemorrhages every few days, also terrible spells which the doctor could not relieve, and the remedy used was as bad as the pain. On March 19 they worked over me five hours and finally gave up. I could not stand the treatment any longer. I had been in bed for five months, and in that time was unable to sit up at all.

I then asked my husband to call a Christian Science practitioner, and he did so on April 8, 1911. I sat up all the next day, and on the twentieth I went down-stairs to dinner. I have been gaining in health right along; every ailment has been overcome by Science, which is my only help and physician. This teaching has given me an understanding of the Bible which I have longed for all my life. The more I read, the clearer the truth becomes to me, and I know that "God is All-in-all" (Science and Health, p. 468).
