About the first of June, 1910, I had signified my willingness to submit to an operation for an internal growth, since a surgeon deemed it advisable. He believed it had taken on a malignant condition, and told me that unless removed it would cause my death in six months. Upon the day set for my entrance to a hospital, at the loving solicitation of a friend I decided to turn to Christian Science for healing. I knew nothing of this religion, and for several years had been a member of another church, but nevertheless I secured a practitioner. After a talk and one treatment from her, there cam to my consciousness a great desire to search for my healing in the Bible, with the help of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and by doing so I found the greatest blessing of my life's experience.
Inside of a month after commencing to read Christian Science literature, I found my fear had lifted to such an extent that I paid no attention to the symptoms which had alarmed me sufficiently to turn to a surgeon, and within eighteen months I was entirely healed through my study of Christian Science. I am truly grateful that the opportunity was large for very continuous study during this season, but most grateful that I was ready to improve my opportunity, for I have found happiness, and peace "which passeth all understanding." It is a joy to prove this demonstrable religion in the healing of my own physical condition, and to be able to understand the allness of God sufficiently to help others.
In the years since I found this "pearl of great price," I have had the privilege of becoming a member of The Mother Church and a branch church. I have also received class instruction, and last but not least, I have the great privilege of teaching a Sunday school class. Truly do I give thanks to God, and gratitude to the consecrated woma who gave to the world this new-old religion, for I have found, as our Leader says on page 293 of Science and Health, that "Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil."—Jane C. Elston, Seattle, Wash.
