[The Christian Commonwealth]
The time has certainly come when Christian people ought to set themselves to make Christianity an international force in a sense in which it has never yet been. We must learn to look upon a mere national religion or a mere national church as a contradiction to Christianity; and we must not be so ready to subject the religious view and aspect of things to other considerations. To make the religious view supreme should be the aim of all the churches.
