A few years ago I came to Christian Science for relief...
A few years ago I came to Christian Science for relief from trouble of a malignant nature, supposedly resulting from injuries received at the birth of my eldest boy, four years before. I had reached the place where I felt sure that materia medica had nothing to offer me but further suffering. The Christian Science practitioner to whom I applied for help received me most lovingly, and talked to me of God and His love, of man as God's reflection, of Christ, who came to show us the way of deliverance from sin, disease, and death, and her clear thought of God healed me instantly. All sense of discomfort disappeared. In three days there was no trace of the sores, all nervousness had gone, and from being utterly wretched and entirely hopeless, I was absolutely sure that the trouble had gone never to return, and I have ever since been free from any symptom of the old condition. Many lesser ills have been destroyed by knowing that God made all, and made all good, and that by striving daily to have in us the spirit of Christ, we will be able to overcome any and all discordant conditions.
For two years our baby was treated by reputable physicians for a skin disease. Through Christian Science he was healed in a few weeks, and the eruption has never returned. Our eldest son was relieved of extreme lameness following a broken leg. My husband has been helped in business, healed of asthma in a severe form, and we both have found that Christian Science is the practical religion for parents. We have a greater love and understanding, and this enables us to see our boys in their true individuality as ideas of God; we know that all wrong and sick thoughts are not a part of them, and do not belong to them. When we fail in demonstration we know that the fault lies not in God's love and power, but in our thought, and we keep on, realizing that nothing can hinder God's perfect work. Some time ago I had trouble with my eyes. I truly believe that treatment in materia medica would have deprived me of sight, so terrible was the manifestation; but with the help of a loving friend I was again shown God's all-power.
For all these and many other evidences of the power of Truth as revealed to us by Mrs. Eddy's unselfish life and work, I cannot sufficiently express my gratitude. I earnestly hope that this testimony may help some one who is seeking a practical, livable religion; a God who will meet every need, however small.—Helen P. Garrett, Lancaster, Pa.
