I want to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude some of the benefits we have received through Christian Science. Six years ago my husband was very ill with what is known as appendicitis. He suffered intense pain, could not eat, and was greatly reduced in flesh. The doctor insisted on an immediate operation, but instead, a Christian Science practitioner was called. The patient was soon relieved of pain and began to eat whatever he desired. In ten days from the beginning of the attack he was back at his work, and he has had no recurrence of the illness.

One month later the same practitioner was called to my bedside, and in half an hour a baby girl was born to us. The doctor said I would suffer several hours, but there was absolutely no pain whatever. About three years previous to this experience, what is called phlebitis developed in one of my limbs while receiving treatment in a hospital for chronic bowel disorder. The limb was swollen to almost twice its normal size and was very much inflamed, so that the suffering was intense. An operation was performed in three places and I was taken home in an almost hopeless condition. It was several months before I could use the limb at all, and longer still before I could bend it at the knee. Shortly after childbirth my other limb was attacked in the same way. Christian Science treatment was given immediately, and about the fifth day, while lying in bed on my back, apparently helpless, but trying to use the thoughts the practitioner had given me, I suddenly began to bend my limb at the knee. In a few more days I was walking across the room, and in a short time the swelling had gone down and I was free from the trouble. This was nearly six years ago, and the condition has not returned.

As to the child, she is in perfect health and has never taken any medicine. When about six months old her food did not agree with her; a very serious bowel trouble developed, and she was greatly emaciated. We took her to the city where the practitioner resided who had helped us so wonderfully before, and after a few days' treatment the child was normal in every way, and she has since gained rapidly in weight.
