Several years ago, in despair, I turned to Christian Science...
Several years ago, in despair, I turned to Christian Science for help for my baby boy, who had been ill from the time he was a month old. He had been under the care of two doctors and in a hospital for two months. The last doctor frankly told me that he thought my baby had "lived its life." I felt that this could not possibly be, if God was good, and upon hearing of a children's hospital where only babies under the age of twelve months were taken in, I hurriedly rushed there with him one day, when he seemed to be rapidly getting worse. They gave me little hope, but promised to do their best, though they advised me to get him christened at once. They kept him for two months, but he grew worse, until his appearance became dreadful, as he was emaciated to the last degree. They then sent for me and told me they could do nothing more; that all I could do was to take him and keep him out in the air as much as possible. At this time he weighed no more than many babies at birth, although he was eight months old. All signs of intelligence had quite left him. He just lay in his cot and moaned incessantly.
I then thought of the little I had heard of Christian Science, and eagerly went to a lady living in the neighborhood whom I had heard spoken of in connection with Christian Science. She very kindly told me somewhat of the meaning of this teaching, and I asked her to direct me to a practitioner. Eventually I went with her to First Church of Christ, Scientist, London, and met a lady who consented to take the case. I arranged a meeting at the practitioner's house, whither I carried my baby. The first treatment was given there, and upon reaching home again I praised God for His goodness, for into my baby's face had come the first sign of restored intelligence. He looked into my face and smiled. From that time the healing work went on. I threw away the material remedies and just left him to God. When he was twelve months old he was a bonny baby and quite average in size; at fifteen months he was much above the average. Very soon after the first treatment the little face lost the prematurely aged look, and the moaning ceased, sleep came, and peace seemed to rest upon him. He is today as healthy and happy a child of nearly six as it would be possible to meet with, and we have depended wholly, ever since his healing, on the power of Truth as taught in Christian Science. I am more than thankful to God for this healing truth.
