I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, as I had been unusually well all my life, with the exception of severe colds, from which I suffered two or three times a year. These attacks were often accompanied with neuralgia, and they lasted from two to four weeks. During my study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, however, I was seized with poisoning in my right arm, and a few months later with erysipelas, both of which kept me ill for many weeks, although I was attended twice a day by a well-known physician.

About the time the doctor recommended sending me to the hospital, against which I rebelled, a sudden change for the better began. I did not then attribute the change to my reading of Science and Health, but I now fully believe the truth was working, though I was filled with antagonism. Sometimes I would read page after page of the book before I would come upon a statement which aroused my antagonism. Then I would throw the book aside with the determination never to read any more of it; but somehow I would be impelled to take it up again. Each time my prejudice grew less, until finally the light of Truth began to dawn, and at length became full-orbed. Since then the Bible and Science and Health have been my daily companions. I often wonder how I could have been so blind to the truth of Mrs. Eddy's interpretation of the Scriptures, for it all seems so plain now; and yet I feel that I am only a beginner, as new thoughts continually present themselves, enabling me to catch brighter gleams of what is yet in store for all truth-seekers.

Since coming into a realization of the Christ-cure, I have almost entirely overcome the tendency to colds, and a simple denial and affirmation is sufficient to meet every attack, no matter how severe, while all fear of the so-called causes which produce them is gone. The old fear of blood-poison, however, developed a few months ago, assuming symptoms most alarming to the physical senses; but I successfully overcame this condition by the application of Christian Science, and later I healed myself of a second attack of erysipelas. I was also healed of an injured ankle in one treatment.
