It is with a sense of great joy and deep gratitude that I herewith testify to having been healed through God's power in Christian Science of what was pronounced tubercular disease of the lungs and vertebræ. Since the birth of my youngest boy, now five years old, I was ailing, and suffered from severe pain in the back and in the chest especially. A "nature-cure" physician treated me for several weeks at his private clinique, and I was informed at the same time that I needed the utmost care in view of the greatly weakened condition of the lungs. About a year after this treatment I felt much better, but then my old troubles returned with accelerated force. I was unable to manage my household affairs, as the pain in the back had become almost unbearable. An outside curvature of the spine was taking place, and a large hard swelling formed in the left side. I submitted to an examination by a physician, the result of which meant a terrible blow to me and my family. The diagnosis was tuberculosis of the dorsal vertebræ and an abscess. I was advised to go to a sanitarium without delay, where a rest-cure extending over a period of several months might be conducive to healing.
As it seemed almost impossible for us to believe this bad news, we consulted several other specialists in this as well as in other localities, but in every instance the dreadful word was that I must leave at once for a sanitarium. The sense of fear and of worry for having to part from those dear to me had such an injurious effect that symptoms of paralysis began to manifest themselves, and according to a medical statement, my lungs were almost entirely diseased. The date of my going to the sanitarium had been fixed, when in our greatest need, and as it seemed through divine Providence, our attention was called to Christian Science. As a drowning man will catch at a straw, so we grasped at what had been extended to us, as it was our last hope.
Not only was this hope to be realized, but our fervent prayers were to be answered. What seemed almost impossible for us to believe at first, occurred. With loving treatment, present as well as absent, I have been freed through Christ, Truth, of the dreadful evil which had beset me. The swelling, which according to the statement of all the physicians whom I had consulted, I would have to retain for the rest of my life, has completely disappeared, after freely discharging through an issue which formed spontaneously. This was the error which had to yield. The pain in the back and in the lungs has almost entirely disappeared, so that for months I have been able to attend to my household duties, without having to rely on others.
