I am very thankful to give my testimony as to the benefit...
I am very thankful to give my testimony as to the benefit I have derived from Christian Science. I suffered for forty-five years from what was called acute stomach trouble, attended with a torpid liver, an enlarged spleen, bowel disorder, cough, and sleeplessness. I tried all kinds of medicines, water cures, etc., but none of these did me any lasting good. I traveled to New Zealand, Australia, America, and other places abroad, but without any permanent good results. Soon after I returned home, I had the same trouble. I also dieted on the lightest food I could possibly get, but even this was a failure. To me, life was a burden instead of a pleasure.
About four years ago one of my friends called to see me, and he asked how my health was. I told him I was as bad as ever, though I had been dieting for some months. He said, "I know a person who has been cured without any medicine whatever," and when I asked what had effected the healing, he replied that it was Christian Science. I had been closely connected with our little parish church for fifty years, and I took a deep interest in the services, which I loved and thought could not be wrong. Near to the neighborhood in which I live, there was Christian Science society, and one Sunday evening I went to the service. Later on a lady sent for me, and kindly lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
I did not at first think that I should get healed by the reading of this book, and I found that so long as I read with prejudice I did not advance; but when I abandoned all prejudice, and tried hard to follow the instructions on prayer, then in three weeks the light came. I was entirely healed of the stomach trouble, and all the other ailments from which I suffered gradually disappeared. I can now eat almost anything; and I must say that I have better health than I have had for the last forty-five years,—and this at seventy-one years of age.
