Some time ago I returned to London from the west coast...
Some time ago I returned to London from the west coast of Africa, quite broken down with so-called malarial fever. For a long time I continued the ordinary method of treating this malady, with repeated and ever increasing doses of medicine, but with no good result. I then had Christian Science treatment, entirely leaving off all drugs, and got rid of the fever; but as I continued to be extremely weak I went to a hospital for tropical diseases. There the diagnosis was that I had not a trace of the malarial fever left, but they said I was suffering from another tropical disease and that my heart was affected by it, as I was nearly unconscious from heart attacks after the slightest exertion.
I remained two weeks in the hospital and was then allowed to go home for a fortnight, as the treatment was so drastic that it was thought this period should elapse before continuing same. I again had Christian Science treatment, and on returning to the hospital my heart was found to be all right and my general health much improved, so I remained only a few days. On leaving I was told, however, that I must take no form of violent exercise, and not even go up-stairs for some time; but within a week I was well enough to take charge of a friend's large garden, a task which entailed digging, mowing, etc., and I was able to paly cricket and tennis with the boys who lived there. On my complete recovery the question of proper employment was taken up, and in a short time I got a good position, where I now am, and I continue in the possession of perfect health.
Although it is over a year since I had Christian Science treatment, I have never once had any return of the illness or been sick for a single day. For the benefits I have received from Christian Science I here express my heartfelt gratitude.
