It has been over seven years since I turned to Christian Science...

It has been over seven years since I turned to Christian Science for relief from rheumatism. I had suffered for a long period, having been under the care of specialists at different times. Quieting tablets were administered during the day and hypodermics at night, to relieve the intense pain, until I feared that I had become a victim to the drug habit. When I sought treatment in Christian Science, I told the practitioner that I wanted only the cure, and that I had no time for reading or studying. She told me the truth was for every one, but that I must put aside all material remedies. This I was glad to do, although at times it seemed that I could not get through the night without them. She left a copy of The Christian Science Journal with me, and I found it contained so much that was beautiful that I was encouraged to seek other reading upon the subject.

My first act was to procure a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" without my practitioner knowing it. With the aid of the text-book and my good friend's kindly counsel, I was gently led to the reading of the Lesson-Sermons, all of which meant much to me. The thought of God as Principle appealed to me strongly. It was after several weeks of treatment that I resolved to take a stand for Truth. In a measure I had realized that Christian Science contains the help I needed, and further to acquire the liberty I craved, I declared that I would no longer submit to error. Accordingly, I prepared to get up and dress myself; and although it took me two hours to do this, a realization suddenly came upon me that my healing was complete, and never since have I had a return of the trouble. Not only have I been freed from this malady, but from great nervousness, severe headaches, and despondency as well. Other ailments, including a bad temper, have also been overcome. In place of continual worry and fear, there has come a sense of protection and safe guidance. Life is one long day of rejoicing. I am more and more thankful to infinite Mind for givine us this understanding through Mrs. Eddy's life and works.—Ida F. Hays, Chicago, Ill.
