THE LECTURES
About three thousand people heard the two lectures on Christian Science delivered by Judge Clifford P. Smith in the edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist. In the afternoon the lecturer was introduced by Frank W. Waters, who said in part,—
It is a good thing to know that Christianity can be demonstrated. The general awakening which has come to this age through the efforts of Mrs. Eddy in her discovery and reestablishment of the primitive healing power of Truth, is bringing peace on earth and good will toward men, the sick are being healed, the sinners reformed, and the lame are being made to walk.
Through this discovery we are enabled to understand that God is good, and by trusting the Bible statements we can demonstrate Christianity. God's word is healing today, through Christian Science, not only physical ills, but, to quote from Science and Health: "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, 'Love thy neighbor as thyself;' annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,—whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed" (p. 340).—Portland Oregonian.
