It was in the summer of 1908 that I first learned something of Christian Science, and since then I have every reason to be grateful for the healing and regenerating benefits which the teachings of Mrs. Eddy have brought and are bringing to me. Before I knew anything of the subject, I seemed fated to be laid up with some complaint or other for a week or so at a time, and obliged frequently to take some kind of medicine; but since my first healing in Christian Science, early in 1909, I have needed no material remedy whatever, and my general health has so greatly improved that I have never been prevented for a single moment from pursuing my usual daily occupation. My first healing was of an acute attack of influenza, which was overcome in three or four hours. In the summer of 1910, in one night, I was healed of a painful internal complaint which used to appear periodically, and which usually kept me in bed for some days; while in the following winter severe poisoning was entirely overcome within four days. Even attacks such as these have been powerless to prevent my going about my work as usual, and I am convinced that not only is Christian Science a curative power, but it is as well a preventive of disease.
I wish also to express my gratitude for the spiritual help and enlightenment which Christian Science is bringing to me. For many years the Bible had been familiar to me, but I must admit that until I gained some knowledge of Christian Science, I understood very little of the Word of God. I can now say, from my own experience, that our textbook is very properly called a "Key to the Scriptures," since almost from the first the light it throws upon the Bible has enabled me to understand and appreciate that wonderful book in a way I had never believed to be possible.
To be gaining, through the conviction that sickness, anxiety, or any other discordant condition is no part of man's birthright, a sense of wonderful peace, security, and contentment, as well as to be learning something of the one God who is Love, are further reasons for giving heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, whose teachings have made this knowledge possible and practical.
