An editorial in the Christian Science Sentinel prompted...
An editorial in the Christian Science Sentinel prompted me to state my experience in the proof that divine Mind is always conscious, is indeed the only real consciousness. For a year previous to the particular experience referred to, I had given much time and thought to the question of consciousness and unconsciousness as generally understood outside of Christian Science, and found that in Christian Science was the only possible or logical explanation of their contrariety. This study naturally impressed me with the desire to be always conscious of the real and unconscious of the unreal; to strive for that Mind to be in me which was in Christ Jesus,—the goal of all true students of Christian Science.
While in Panama I was stricken with a fever, but by the help of a local practitioner I was out in a few days, and took passage on a steamer for New York, traveling alone. En route, I was taken with a relapse, and immediately became unconscious to mortal sense, yet to myself I was conscious of knowing Science. On my arrival I was taken to a hospital, and Christian Science treatment was continued while I was there. I thank God that although I was unconcious of the error, I was consious of divine Mind, and conversed freely with Scientists regarding the Christian Science treatment. I could also pray, and give satisfactory argument and declaration of the truth of being, and make intelligent denial of the erroneous manifestation. I was rewarded for my previous study of Christian Science and was conscious of the real, while unconscious of the unreal.
It may interest some one who is still uncertain of the scientific basis of Christian Science, to know that the records of that hospital, one of the most prominent in New York city, will show that after most persistent daily tests, by all of their scientific methods, no trace was found of any disease germs, and therefore they could not arrive at a diagnosis. Christian Scientists will understand that the truth had destroyed all sense of germs. What we learn by practical proof in Christian Science can never be lost, because it is a scientific fact.
