I hope I may be permitted to join in the song of thanksgiving...
I hope I may be permitted to join in the song of thanksgiving and praise for this wonderful truth, trusting that some one may glean at least a crumb of comfort from my experience.
When I ask myself what Christian Science has done for me, I find words are inadequate to express to others the benefit I have received from its teaching. When I first learned of it, a little over five years ago, I was very ill and very unhappy. All had been done for me that human love could do, but to no avail. Since childhood I had been held in bondage by a supposedly incurable disease of the kidneys, and to mortal sense the time had come for me to pass on. The physicians had pronounced the case hopeless, and had given me but a few weeks to live. I was greatly bloated. and scarcly able to walk, but with the help of a practitioner I began to improve in a short time, and soon the swelling disappeared. A dear friend then came to my bedside and told me of this truth that makes man free, and it was through her many kind words and deeds that I was led to investigate Christian Science. After telling me many impressive truths, she went away; but in a few days she sent me some copies of the Sentinel, and also a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and bade me read them. I did so, and at the end of three weeks I was able to walk about the house and attend to my duties.
From that time on my progress from a physical standpoint has been sure and steady. In a spiritual way it has been everything to me. I have learned to rejoice always, to count my blessings, and in doing so they have increased. Christian Science has changed my thought; it has taught me to love all mankind and trust God in all things. I am truly thankful to God for the knowledge which is gained through the study of this Science, and grateful to our beloved Leader for her wonderful writings. I now know that "the Lord is my shepherd" every day; yes, every hour.
