My youngest son, born four years ago, manifested several ailments which induced me, in accordance with the advice of our country physician, to take him to a clinique in town. A consultation of physicians disclosed the fact that the little fellow was suffering from two forms of hernia, one being very painful, and for which, after a period of from two to four years, when the child would have grown stronger, an operation would have to be performed. They recommended that special attention be paid to the wearing of a truss, since leaving the child without it might lead to serious consequences, and they also said that he must be otherwise well cared for. After the child had been at the clinique for two months, I took him to his grandmother, who lives in the country, where he had excellent care besides being under medical observation. Still, his condition continued to grow worse; he could retain but little nourishment, had severe attacks of vomiting, and the inaction of the bowels with which he had always been troubled took on very serious proportions and seemed to cause him great suffering. He was losing strength very fast, and although the physicians tried every means of cure, their efforts remained unsuccessful; the attacks became more frequent, and the child was pining; away.

But man's extremity is indeed God's opportunity. I had heard and read a few things about Christian Science which had appealed to me quite strongly, and I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Being very much impressed by the child's serious condition, and feeling that no human being was able to help him, I turned to Christian Science as my last hope. I knew the address of a practitioner in Dresden and applied for treatment, which was taken up immediately. From the day on which my letter reached the practitioner the child improved. Our household being broken up at that time, as we intended to move to another estate after a while, the boy remained with his grandmother, who was then averse to Christian Science. The thoughts of worry and anxiety surrounding him may have been a hindrance to quick healing, but when he came under my care I took off the truss and held to the truth of being, and all symptoms of the hernia quickly disappeared. After two or three weeks had elapsed he was a perfectly well child. His appetite was good, he ate everything that was given him, and everything agreed with him. He is now four years old, and is a healthy, strong, well-developed boy. There are no indications whatever of his former troubles, and it is remarkable how unconscious of pain he seems to be.

Since we have had this proof of grace and Truth, which, as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 67), "are potent beyond all other means and methods," we have resorted to no other method of cure and are deeply grateful for the understanding of the truth. My other three children, my husband, and myself, have also found healing in Christian Science. Measles, throat trouble, whoopingcough, dental trouble, imperfect bowel action, have all been quickly overcome with the help of Christian Science. In all cases the healing came about through absent treatment, since, as Mrs. Eddy says, "space is no obstacle to Mind" (Science and Health, p. 179).
