I wish to tell what Christian Science has done for me and...
I wish to tell what Christian Science has done for me and mine, with the hope that some one in need may also be led to try it. For ten years I had been ailing, and had spent hundreds of dollars for medical treatment. I had tried the leading doctors of several cities and was operated on for an abnormal growth. I had also tried electric treatment, hot springs, etc., but with no favorable results. I was told that I had a malignant disease of the stomach, paralysis of the lower bowels, a hardened liver, and gall-stones.
At this time I was living at Edmore, N. Dak. I was told by the doctors that I could not live another winter unless I went to a warmer climate, so in the fall of 1907 I went West in search of health. When I arrived at Independence, Ore., my mother and sister, who live there, advised me to try a doctor in Portland who, they believed, could help me. I accordingly did, having three months' treatment, and with the result that I grew weaker every day; then I gave up, with the wish that I might at least be able to reach my home and family. This was in the latter part of April, and just before starting for home I called on some old friends in McMinnville, and there heard of Christian Science. I got a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" to read on my way home, as my friend said it would help me.
I returned to my mother's, intending to start for home the next morning, but that night I had another bad spell. Mother and sister thought I was passing away, and sent word to my wife that they doubted very much if I would ever reach home alive. These spells usually lasted two weeks, but the second day I was feeling easier and asked for Science and Health. I began to read the chapter on Prayer and was very much impressed by it, so the next day I arose and threw my pipe and tobacco into the stove. I had read enough to know that this truth was what I wanted, and I again went to my friend's home to learn more of it. Christian Science was lovingly explained to me, and it looked very reasonable. In all, I had three present treatments and about two weeks' absent treatment, and I returned home on May 10, healed. Since that time my stomach and bowels have not troubled me, and I have eaten anything I wished.
