In writing this testimony I am filled with deep gratitude. Our attention was called to Christian Science by my brother, who had heard of this teaching through the healing of a friend. He would often ask us to attend a Wednesday evening meeting, but we could not make up our minds to do so, until distress over a disease with which my husband was afflicted finally drove us to investigate Christian Science. The trouble was inflammation of the knee-joint, which first manifested itself in 1906 and suddenly reappeared two years later. Fear lest we should have to go through terrible suffering led us to resort to Christian Science, and we called upon a practitioner. My husband, my five-year-old daughter, and myself, went together, for we all intended to ask for help. As we knew practically nothing about Christian Science, the practitioner started by giving us some explanation regarding this wonderful subject and asked us to call again on the following day.

I shall never forget my first hour's conversation with this practitioner. She said to me that God does not send disease and suffering, but that He is divine Love, who created all things perfect, and He never afflicts His children. An indescribable feeling of joy came over me, for I knew that I had found the truth, and the God whom I had vainly sought heretofore. I was filled with gratitude to know that when Truth is discerned and we are willing to turn with firm trust and confidence to God, divine Love, He is indeed an ever-present help and power.

Christian Science healed my husband at that time of his affliction. I myself had been suffering with a bowel trouble since the age of thirteen, and the various physicians who were consulted seemed unable to help me, so I was obliged to take medicine daily; but a single treatment in Christian Science healed me of this ailment, and I have enjoyed good health ever since without using material means. The way in which I experienced the power of divine Love was wonderful, and I feel that I cannot be too grateful for all these benefits. Our daughter had labored under this same difficulty since she was one year old, and she submitted to an operation in 1906. The physicians expected it to be successful, but it proved a failure. Christian Science, however, healed her, though the healing was not so quick in her case as in my own; but this may have been due to the fact that my husband and myself observed her too much and seemed unable to get over our sense of fear. It was not until we got rid of all such thoughts and learned that divine Love alone governs our child, and that it was our duty to leave her entirely under His care, that she was healed. She has since grown to be a healthy girl and is nine years of age.
