I wish to express my gratitude for the benefits that have...
I wish to express my gratitude for the benefits that have come to me and my family through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." About two years ago, when I first heard of Christian Science, a kind friend loaned us the text-book, and I had only read about ten pages when I was instantaneously healed of stomach, liver, and kidney trouble, also of paralyzed bowels. I had been a sufferer for twenty-one years. At times I was unable to eat, the lightest food causing me great suffering. I lived on liquids for a month at a time, and if I ate anything outside the special diet prepared for me, I would suffer intense pain. As time went on I became subject to very severe headaches; in fact, neuralgia had settled all through my system. I had many physicians, among them some of the most noted specialists, but none seemed able to give me more than temporary relief.
God has been our only physician since we have made Christian Science a study, and we have had many proofs that the truth heals sin and disease. This wonderful truth has healed me of hate, malice, selfishness, and many other evil traits, and it is becoming more and more practical in my every-day life. As I strive to live in obedience to its perfect Principle, God, I am being freed from fear and other discordant conditions.
The physical healing seems almost unimportant compared to the peace, joy, and spiritual uplift which the study of Christian Science brings into one's life; but as Mrs. Eddy says, "Divine Truth must be known by its effects on the body as well as on the mind, before the Science of being can be demonstrated" (Science and Health, p. 350). I am truly grateful for the slight understanding I have of divine Truth.—George W. Schaffstall, Harrisburg, Pa.
