It has been my desire for a long time to express my gratitude for the blessings which I have received in my experience in Christian Science. I therefore send my testimony for publication. It is one of the most positive cases of complete healing which has occurred in this town, and I trust it may be of interest to the readers of the Sentinel.
Three years ago I was in the depths of despair. I had much to make me happy, but I was bitterly unhappy, for I had been sick for so long that it seemed a part of my very existence to suffer, and I began to think I would never be strong and well again. I was only nineteen years old when, after several months of confinement to my bed, I was taken to a hospital, where I submitted to a most serious surgical operation. The suffering I endured after this was dreadful and I never fully recovered from the effects of this operation, so two years later I was again confined to my bed with similar abdominal trouble and the doctor said nothing but a second operation would help me, and that I was apt to have abnormal growths appear again. At this time, when my life seemed so dark and unhappy, Christian Science was brought to my notice, and rather than undergo another operation, I turned to it for physical help only.
The services of a practitioner in another city were sought, but he was so busy that he could not take my case for another week. He, however, agreed to treat me absently, if he should have any spare time. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was brought to me, and having had trouble with my eyes, I feared I could not read, but I did! I read the book with the greatest sense of hope and encouragement that I had ever known, and in four days I was enabled to get up and walk a distance of four or five blicks. This was all a mystery to me, for I understood very little of what I read, but I shall never forget the joy and peace that came to me when I discovered that I did not have to be sick any longer. I learned afterward that the practitioner had given me two absent treatments, and these, together with my few days' reading of the text-book, healed me. I, however, seemed to be so filled with fear, for it was all so new and wonderful, that in a few days I traveled sixty-five miles alone to where I could see the practitioner daily. I remained in that city for a month and I continued to grow in faith. When I returned to my home, I was filled with timidity, yet joy, for every one I met seemed to want to know all about my healing.
