Five years ago I was ill and unable to enjoy my pleasant surroundings. My husband and son were more than kind to me, everything was done that could be for my welfare, and still all seemed dark and cheerless. One day, while down to the city, I met a dear friend whom I had not seen for several years. She was a Christian Scientist, and told me of some of the benefits which she had received. Seeing that I was in need of help, physically and mentally, she said she would visit me at my earliest convenience. The following week she came to my home and spoke again of Christian Science, asking why, as I had tried all other remedies, i did not try this treatment. I told her I was willing, and we went at once to see a practitioner. After talking with the practitioner, I felt happier than I had for many months. I had a desire to know more of the things about which she told me, so I took her advice and went to the reading-rooms and bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, also subscribed for the Sentinel and Journal; the result being that with one week's treatment and the constant study of Science and Health, I was a well and happy woman once more.
I have longed to tell others of my healing, and of the spiritual uplifting which I received by turning to Christian Science and thereby gaining a clearer sense of the teachings of Christ Jesus. I am indeed grateful for this truth, and it has made me a better woman, also a better wife and mother. I have found God to be an ever-present help, one whom I can trust, and I know that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).—Mrs. C. M. Speck, Spokane, Wash.
