I feel that it is time I made public acknowledgment of the good I have found in Christian Science. In the summer of 1908, while under stress of great mental suffering and longing for a satisfying solution to the seeming problems and inconsistencies of life, I drifted into a Sunday service at Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Waco, Texas. I was impressed with the peaceful simplicity of the service, the utter lack of ostentation and putting forth of personality. The service was so entirely different from that to which I was accustomed, the people seemed so happy and healthy looking, and welcomed me so cordially, inviting me to come again, that I soon found myself among them quite regularly. I had long since fallen out with the popular concept of God and creation, and had gone through the category of the various "isms" without finding anything to which I felt I could anchor my faith absolutely.
Before a great while I felt impelled to get a copy of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I took up the study of the Lesson-Sermons. Although at first I had no thought of physical help, I have improved in health from that day on. Very soon life's seemingly tangled snarls began to straighten, not always just as I wished or expected, but it was, as I begin to see now, in the right way. I found that I had idols many; but I am happy to see them crumbling into dust one by one. I had been an ardent believer in osteopathy, in fact a practitioner, but I saw erelong where to place the cures it seems to effect.
I feel that I cannot be grateful enough for liberation from the errors which were enslaving me, for the assurance that just in the proportion that I cast out false belief and give up my matter idols, will I come into man's eternal heritage of harmony, and for the spiritual enlightenment which reveals the wonderful perfection of God and His universe. I am glad and proud to march on in the steadily increasing ranks of Christian Science and to help bear aloft its banner, white and shining with the emblazonment of purity, Truth, and Love.—D. F. GARTON, San Antonio, Tex.
