I am singing in the words of the psalmist, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." When Christian Science found me, I had been to mortal sense a physical wreck for several years. I had taken medicine every four hours for three years; had been under the care of six different physicians for ten years, and these were the best in the country, one being a noted specialist. I underwent a surgical operation for female troubles, the physician saying he was going to make a well woman of me, but instead I grew weaker every day. My friends said they did not expect to see me alive three months longer. At this time I had about lost all faith in medicines. The greatest blessing that had come to me was when I moved into a flat near a Christian Scientist. She was always smiling and seemed happy at all times.

I had been living there about ten days when this good woman told me that it was not material remedies which I needed, and asked me if I would like to have a book to read. I said I would. I then began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Three days later I threw all my medicine, mineral water, etc., aside, and in two weeks I did not seem the same person; indeed, I was not the same woman. The preface of this book begins, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings." As I read those words, I cannot express the feeling that came over me. I seemed to be lifted up to where I had never been before. I read Science and Health through, then went to the Bible and read the New Testament, Psalms, Isaiah, and other books of the Old Testament, and what a revelation it was to me! I read on in this way for three months, saying nothing to any one, before I attended a Christian Science service.

I was then living in Parkersburg, W. Va. I was a member of one of the churches of that city, and during the three months that I was reading Science and Health and studying the Bible in connection therewith, I continued to attend church and Sunday school, but at last I had to stop. I shall never forget the first Christian Science meeting I attended, every one looked so happy, all had such bright faces. They did not have that tired, worn, and troubled look which I had been so used to seeing, and I was happy, too, for I had begun to understand where they got it. On the 22d of June, 1909, I cast all material remedies away. When the time came for my tonic, it seemed that I could never get through my lunch. I had been depending on this tonic for strength, but that inward voice said I must choose between divine power and lifeless matter, and from that moment I went on without a fear or a doubt, and it has never entered my mind to go back to medicine.
